Don't use a bamboo with a large indent as seen in the image below
A small indent as seen in the picture below is ok
If possible don't use a very green young bamboo, find an older bamboo.
So that it does not shiven and change shape after it's been cut
The final product should be similiar to the image below.
The final product may be shorter or longer based on your hand size. This is how you should measure the Kuam.
Steps
Using a large sharp knife, cut the part of the bamboo you don't need away
Flatten the part you just cut of the kuam your going to use
Flip the Kuam to the other end and trim both sides to a sharp point
Try to make it as even on both sides as possible
Finally cut the kuam in half as evenly as possible
When you perform the cut, don't cut it at the top points, cut in the middle of the the bottom dip.
